WELCOME to
the City of BURDETT
The farming community of Burdett, Kansas is located on the west border of Pawnee County. Population is approximately 300 including cats and dogs. The people are friendly and happy to see you!
The City of Burdett is located on the East West Auto and Bicycle Trail. Standing tall against the Kansas sky is the City of Burdett's Water Tower signaling tourist and bicyclist to stop and visit the town.
Burdett was founded by Dr. Gallatin Brown, who initially named the area Browns Grove in 1876. The town was later renamed Burdett in honor of the humorist and newspaper writer, Robert Jones Burdette in 1887. This change occurred as the town developed and became a significant shipping point on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
